Layers, Brush Effects and Gradient
We’ve created another concept for our readers, a concept that is sporty and full of passion and zeal in the form of energized and fiery effects. This could also be called as an abstract combination of technical know-how and creative ideas that could be molded based to our ability, acceptance, perseverance, determination, adaptation, flexibility, and the hunger to accept new challenges. We have used a combination of fire and a dancing posture, which represents aggression as well as enjoyment and inner happiness. We have also used relative things like Brushes & Layer styles and some new techniques that you would come to learn about in this tutorial. So let’s get started with the process.
Take a look at the image we'll be creating.
Getting Started
Step 1:
To start with tutorials, take a new stage with 1000x768 px and save this file with name of "Burning Man"
Step 2:
We are using a cloud background image to create a great texture for our tutroial.
Step 3:
Then:
1. Press Ctrl+J to make Duplicate Layer of the cloud layer.
2. Now change the Blending mode of second layer to Multiply.
Step 4:
We want to make an abstract background for our design work. So we using a another background image as you can see below.
Step 5:
To get desired background for our tutorial, we have to innovate more with Layer Blending modes.
Note:
1. Change mode of first layer to Luminosity and change opacity to 64%.
2. You can adjust options accordingly if you want.
Step 6:
Now again press D to make sure you have black and white as default colors.
1. Create a new Layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and make a radial gradient using Gradient tool.
2. Change Blending mode to Multiply so it looks like halo in the center of the image.
3. Make sure that you have fix the black & white color in Gradient Color.
4. Also select the Radial Gradient mode to fill the layer.
Step 7:
This is how your image should look like after using all above steps.
Step 8:
Now get an image of a man in a dancing posture that could be used as our subject image of "Burning Man."
Step 9:
As you can see, we have a white background. So it’s easy to select the image using Magic Wand tool.
1. To select the image properly, you could use different tools to make the perfect selection.
Step 10:
1. As we’re using Magic Wand, we have to Inverse our selection to select the man’s image.
2. You can use shortcut key (Ctrl+Shift+I) to make Inverse selection.
Step 11:
Place the man's image into the center of the background as we’ve done earlier.
Step 12:
We need to use some more filters and effects to make it look more pleasing to the eyes.
1. Make a copy of the man's layer using Ctrl+Shift+J.
2. Use Filter > blur > Gaussian Blur.
3. See how the image blurs.
4. Make sure that your blurred layer is behind the man's layer.
Step 13:
We can see now that the blurred layer is giving a glow effect to the original image.
Step 14:
Now, we are going to use a Brush to give our image more grungy and splatter look. For this, I’m using splatter brush by corella. You can load the brush and use accordingly.
Step 15:
Use different types of splatter brushes you can choose from Brush Pallet as we have shown below:
1. Make sure that brush opacity is 41%.
Step 16:
To give the background more sporty look, we are using green, blue and red as colors:
1. Make sure that brush opacity is 41%.
2. Use brushes in the center of a new layer over background layer.
3. Make sure that you have fix the forground and background color in the Tool Bar.
4. Forgroud and background color will help you to get the same effect as we have done.
Step 17:
Get the image of flames as to give fiery look to the original one.
Step 18:
Select out the image using Magic Wand and again use Ctrl+Shift+I to Inverse the selection and select the fire only. This is the same process as we have done above.
Step 19:
Now use the image of flames to get the fiery effect. Use fire layer on the edges of body of man's layer.
Step 20:
Use Free Transform Tool to get the flames along edges of man's layer. It will give the desired effect what we want to create.
Step 21:
Make sure you’re getting the flames on the edges and in same direction where looks better.
Step 22:
Make more copies of fire layers and use on edges as shown below.
Step 23:
Now this is what your composite image will look like after using flames and splatter brushes.
Step 24:
Now, we need to insert flames on the edge of the left hand so it will look impressive and give us a great feel of art.
Step 25:
Use Free Transform Tool to get desired results.
Step 26:
Now we make those laser ropes around the body of man's layer. In order to do this, we’re using Pen tool and create a path along the legs of man's layer and move it toward upper chest.
1. Make sure you selected the Pen Tool from Tool Pallet.
Step 27:
After creating the path, right click on path with Pen tool and select the open stroke path.
1. Make sure that simulate pressure option is checked while creating path to stroke.
2. Now we use Blending Option to change it into glowing ropes.
Step 28:
Open the > Layer style box and select the Outer Glow option to use the setting as shown below.
Step 29:
To make laser brighter in the center, use Inner Glow with following settings as shown below.
Step 30:
Now, duplicate the laser rope layer and shift it little upwards.
Step 31:
In layer style, change glow color of Duplicate Layer to pink to make different color spirals.
Step 32:
Now, in layer style, change Inner Glow color of Duplicate Layer with red to make things perfect.
Step 33:
Again, we will do the same process but this time on the edges of the cap.
1. Right click it and change path to stroke.
2. Use Blending Option.
Step 34:
Open the > Layer style box and select the Outer Glow and use the setting as shown below.
Step 35:
Again, Open the >Layer style box and select the Inner Glow and use the setting as shown below.
Step 36:
Change Blending mode of the fire layers to Multiply. This will give them a more superficial look and make them appear through the edges of the body.
Step 37:
Duplicate the fire layers and repeat the same steps again for other flames.
Step 38:
It's time to give the burning effect to the cloths, so draw a brown color line with fire edges as you can see below.
Step 39:
Copy the color line and paste with fire edges as we have done in beow steps.
Step 40:
Follow the same option as we have done above to put the color line with fire edges.
Step 41:
So now we have completed with the fire decoration and tried to make it more natural. Now it's look good.
Step 42:
Now, we can create laser rope for the right hand by repeating the same steps with Pen tool. Create the path, then right click on path with Pen tool and select the stroke the path option.
1. Make sure that simulate pressure option is checked while creating path to stroke.
2. Now we use Blending Option to change it into glowing ropes.
Step 43:
Now it's time to create the Laser effect on the arms of the man, so we do the same process as we have done before. Create some Rope through Pen Tool as we have done below:
1. Then apply some Layer style otion as you can see below.
Step 44:
Give sone glow and laser effect as we have done below to create te laser Rope on the arm.
Step 45:
Then make a copy of the layer through Duplicate option and make it more flexible as per our requirment.
Step 46:
Affter some more decoration we will get this kind of look with our artwork. We can do more things here that need more creative things and visualization.
Conclusion:
In this artwork, we have tried to pass on various methods and techniques, which could be used as handy tools such as Filters, Color correction, Combination of images, etc. In this way, we can think of various ideas and use our creativity and imagination to put together implement smartly and optimally to get the desired results. If implemented properly, we can give great shapes and colors to the figures, which are always running through our mind. So in the end, we hope that you liked that tutorial and must have certainly gained a lot from our concept.
